Sreekaryam Flyover Phase 1 to Finish in 3 Months

Jun 23, 2025

Sreekaryam Flyover Phase 1 to Finish in 3 MonthsThiruvananthapuram is witnessing a major leap in urban infrastructure with the Sreekaryam flyover’s initial construction phase set for completion within the next three months. Spearheaded by Kochi Metro Rail Limited, the flyover is a key part of the city’s broader Metro-linked infrastructure development plan.

Despite monsoon challenges, construction is progressing swiftly. The current phase includes crucial groundwork such as stormwater drains, utility ducts, service roads, and utility relocation. This preparatory work ensures minimal disruption during the upcoming piling and superstructure construction.

What sets Sreekaryam apart is its forward-thinking design. The flyover’s foundation and piers are engineered to support both surface traffic and future Metro rail pillars, aligned along the central divider. This dual-purpose structure maximizes land use and future-proofs the project against infrastructure redundancy.

Approved in September 2024, the flyover stretches 535 meters with a four-lane, 7.5-meter-wide carriageway. It features 5.5-meter-wide service roads on both sides, along with 1.5-meter-wide pedestrian footpaths. The total project cost is estimated between ₹170–₹177 crore, funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).

The land acquisition process covered 1.34 hectares across Cheruvakkal, Ulloor, and Pangappara, displacing 168 structures. ₹98 crore has already been disbursed in compensation to landowners. The tender for construction was awarded at ₹71.38 crore, exceeding the sanctioned estimate to expedite execution.

As utility shifting and drainage work wraps up, the next step involves central piling works — designed to Metro-grade specifications. The project promises seamless connectivity and urban mobility, laying the foundation for Thiruvananthapuram’s future Metro expansion.

Sreekaryam isn’t just building a flyover — it’s building a smarter, integrated future for the capital city.
