The Haryana government has approved infrastructure development works worth ₹4,016 crore following a detailed review of tenders by the High Powered Works Purchase Committee (HPWPC). The committee, chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, finalised the approvals during a meeting held in Chandigarh that concluded on Saturday evening. The decisions mark one of the state’s major infrastructure clearances in recent months and cover projects across power distribution, urban development, roads, bridges, and social infrastructure.
According to officials, a total of 58 tenders were taken up for discussion during the meeting. While deliberations on two tenders were withheld, the remaining 56 underwent detailed negotiations with the bidders. These projects were originally estimated to cost around ₹4,166 crore. After negotiations, the final agreed value was brought down to approximately ₹4,016 crore, resulting in an estimated saving of about ₹150 crore. Government representatives said the savings highlight the state’s efforts to ensure financial prudence, transparency, and efficient utilisation of public funds.
A significant portion of the approved works relates to strengthening the power distribution sector in Haryana. The committee granted approval for awarding works to firms and agencies that had completed the tender process for distribution infrastructure development. These include projects aimed at reducing line losses, setting up new 33 kV substations, and expanding and strengthening existing substations in multiple areas served by Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam. Officials stated that these initiatives are expected to improve power reliability and distribution efficiency across the state.
The meeting also approved the implementation of SCADA and DMS/OMS systems in Gurugram. These systems are designed to enhance monitoring, control, and management of electricity distribution networks, enabling quicker fault detection and improved service delivery. The move aligns with broader efforts to modernise urban infrastructure in fast-growing cities.
Apart from the power sector, several urban development and road infrastructure projects received approval. The committee cleared works related to the four-laning and improvement of remaining stretches of master roads between Sectors 5/6, 6/9, and 5/10 under the Sonipat Metropolitan Development Authority. These road projects are expected to ease traffic congestion and support urban expansion in the region.
In Panchkula, the committee approved the construction of a new high-level bridge near the existing bridge close to the Panchkula Golf Club. The bridge will connect Sectors 3 and 21 with Sectors 23 and 25 across the Ghaggar river and will be executed on an engineering, procurement, and construction basis. In addition, projects for the beautification and rejuvenation of two water channels passing through Panchkula under the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority were also cleared.
Social infrastructure was another focus area during the meeting. Approval was given for the construction of modern hostel buildings for working women in Sector 78, Faridabad, and Sector 9, Gurugram. Officials said these facilities are intended to support working women by providing safe and well-equipped accommodation in major urban centres.
Several senior ministers attended the meeting, including the energy minister, education minister, revenue and disaster management minister, public works minister, and the minister for irrigation and water resources. Their presence underscored the multi-departmental nature of the projects and the coordinated approach taken by the state government in clearing large-scale infrastructure works.
While the approvals mark an important step, officials noted that timely execution and quality control will be critical to ensure the intended benefits reach citizens. The government has reiterated its focus on strengthening infrastructure delivery while maintaining fiscal discipline.
