Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Inaugurates New Power Sub-Station to Strengthen Metro Operations
New Delhi: In a major boost to the capital’s public transport infrastructure, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated a state-of-the-art Electric Receiving Sub-Station (RSS) at Park Street near the Central Vista area on Friday, January 30, 2026. The new facility, completed in just 18 months, is expected to provide uninterrupted electrical power to key Delhi Metro corridors and support upcoming network expansion projects, ensuring smoother and more reliable services for millions of commuters across the city.
The Park Street RSS has been developed under the supervision of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and is equipped with modern technical systems that align with operational efficiency and environmental sustainability standards. The sub-station is expected to significantly improve power supply stability along critical routes such as the Airport Line and the Violet Line (Line-6). Officials said the project also provides additional capacity for future metro sections, including the Central Vista Metro Line, which is part of the ongoing Phase-5A expansion of the metro network.
During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Gupta highlighted the strategic importance of stable electricity supply as the backbone of efficient metro operations. She emphasised that the newly commissioned sub-station incorporates the latest technology to minimise power disruptions and improve overall metro reliability, especially as Delhi continues to expand its rail transit infrastructure. Gupta also noted that the completion of the project within a relatively short timeframe reflects the city’s focus on strengthening public transport systems through advanced infrastructure development.
The RSS, located near the Central Vista Project — one of Delhi’s most high-profile urban redevelopment initiatives — includes upgraded electrical equipment such as 66 kV power transformers, 33 kV and 25 kV Gas-Insulated Switchgear (GIS) panels, and an advanced sub-station automation system. These modern systems are designed to optimise performance, enhance operational safety, and ensure seamless power distribution capable of handling increasing electricity load demands from multiple metro lines simultaneously.
Sustainability has also been a key focus in the design and construction of the Park Street RSS. Built in accordance with green building norms, the facility features energy-efficient solutions such as VRF air-conditioning systems and LED lighting. Authorities have also indicated that plans are underway to install solar rooftop panels in the near future, further reducing the carbon footprint of the station and strengthening Delhi Metro’s contribution to the city’s green infrastructure goals.
