Senior leadership and team members of Ammann India wearing safety helmets inaugurate the start of ARW 65 walk-behind roller production with a ribbon-cutting ceremony inside the Mehsana manufacturing facility in Gujarat.Ammann India has commenced production of the ARW 65 Walk-Behind Roller at its manufacturing facility in Mehsana, Gujarat, marking a significant milestone in the company’s localisation strategy and expansion of its compaction equipment portfolio. The inauguration ceremony was led by Mr Hans Christian Schneider, Global CEO of Ammann Group, and Mr Dheeraj Panda, Managing Director of Ammann India, along with members of the company’s senior leadership team.

The start of production reflects Ammann India’s continued commitment to strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities while aligning with the country’s accelerating urban and infrastructure development requirements. With increasing investments in road construction, urban renewal projects, landscaping works and smaller civil infrastructure upgrades, demand for compact, efficient and versatile compaction equipment has been steadily rising. The ARW 65 has been introduced to address precisely these evolving market needs.

The ARW 65 Walk-Behind Roller will now be manufactured locally at the Mehsana facility in line with Ammann’s global engineering standards and advanced production processes. Despite being produced in India, the model adheres to the same performance benchmarks and reliability standards that define Ammann’s global product range. At the same time, the machine has been tailored to suit Indian site conditions, ensuring durability and efficiency in diverse operating environments.

Designed specifically for smaller and confined construction sites, the ARW 65 offers a working width of 650 mm and functions as a versatile 2-in-1 compaction solution. It is equipped with high amplitude settings suitable for soil and gravel compaction, while the low amplitude configuration supports asphalt applications. This flexibility enables contractors to use the same equipment across different job requirements, improving utilisation rates and operational efficiency.

The machine is powered by reliable Kohler or Yanmar diesel engines, ensuring dependable performance across varied project conditions. It features a fully hydraulic drive system that eliminates the need for belts and clutches, thereby reducing maintenance requirements and enhancing overall operational reliability. By simplifying the mechanical structure, Ammann aims to lower downtime and improve productivity for contractors working in demanding project schedules.

Among its notable features is a 60-litre water tank integrated with a sprinkler system, which supports effective asphalt compaction. The hydrostatic eccentric adjustment offers two force levels, allowing operators to adapt compaction intensity according to application needs. The ARW 65 also incorporates improved ergonomics to enhance operator comfort during extended use. Safety has been prioritised through the inclusion of a dead-man handle and an integrated parking brake, contributing to safer site operations.

With an operating weight of approximately 694 kg and a maximum centrifugal force of up to 23 kN, the ARW 65 is well suited for pavement repairs, pathway construction, landscaping activities and various urban infrastructure projects. Its compact design and manoeuvrability make it particularly useful in areas where larger rollers may not be practical.

The Mehsana manufacturing facility has an annual production capacity of 150 units for this model and supports approximately 90 per cent localisation. This high level of local sourcing aligns with broader industry trends favouring domestic manufacturing and reduced dependency on imports. It also supports faster delivery timelines and improved service support within the country.

Commenting on the development, Hans Christian Schneider, Global CEO, Ammann Group, stated that India represents a strategically important market for the company. He emphasised that Ammann’s commitment extends beyond introducing globally proven technologies, focusing instead on localising innovation through engineering solutions tailored to India’s operating conditions, customer expectations and infrastructure ambitions. According to him, the commencement of ARW 65 production reinforces the company’s long-term commitment to local manufacturing and engineering excellence.

Dheeraj Panda, Managing Director, Ammann India, highlighted the role of strong policy momentum, enhanced government investment and the Make in India initiative in accelerating infrastructure growth. He noted that local production of the ARW 65 reflects the company’s strategy of combining world-class technology with Indian manufacturing capabilities to deliver reliable, productive and sustainable compaction solutions. He added that this milestone demonstrates how targeted investments in domestic manufacturing can enhance efficiency, quality and long-term value for customers.

The ARW 65 Walk-Behind Roller will be available in the Indian market from April and will be supported by Ammann India’s nationwide sales and service network. With local production now underway, Ammann India is positioned to respond more effectively to growing demand while strengthening its footprint in the country’s compaction equipment segment.
