Volvo CE India Unveils Made-in-Bharat EC215 at EXCON 2025

Dec 12, 2025

Volvo Construction Equipment India has used EXCON 2025 to make one of its strongest statements yet about its long-term commitment to the country’s infrastructure sector. At South Asia’s largest construction equipment exhibition, the company unveiled its new Made-in-Bharat EC215 excavator, alongside a broader portfolio of machines and service solutions designed specifically for Indian conditions. The launch signals a growing emphasis on localisation, energy transition, and advanced support systems for contractors operating in an increasingly competitive construction landscape.

The EC215 excavator is positioned as Volvo CE’s newest entrant in the 20–22-tonne category, one of the most active segments in India’s earthmoving market. The machine is manufactured domestically and incorporates feedback collected from Indian users, reflecting what Volvo CE India says is a customer-driven design process. The model builds upon the momentum created by last year’s EC210 launch, with the company highlighting performance, fuel efficiency, and reliability as core advantages for contractors working across road building, general construction, and earthmoving applications.

The company’s booth at EXCON showcased additional India-focused products. The SD110 compactor was introduced for road construction, a segment where demand continues to rise due to ongoing national and state highway development. Another significant highlight was the L120 Electric Wheel Loader, which marks Volvo CE India’s entry into the zero-emission commercial equipment space. This is a notable step for the domestic market, which has only recently begun experimenting with electric heavy machinery. Volvo CE also previewed the EC650, a large excavator aimed at high-volume applications in mining and large infrastructure projects, ahead of its formal launch.

Beyond product hardware, Volvo CE emphasised that construction companies increasingly value services and operational support as much as equipment performance. The company showcased a suite of service offerings, including equipment-as-a-service models, operator training initiatives, digital monitoring tools, and fleet management systems. These solutions are aimed at improving uptime, lowering operating costs, and helping contractors optimise machine utilisation—areas that have grown in importance as project timelines tighten and fuel costs remain volatile.

Another significant update came in the form of progress on Volvo CE’s upcoming Technology Centre in Bengaluru. The facility will focus on research, product development, and localisation for both Indian and global markets. According to the company, this investment underscores India’s expanding role within Volvo CE’s worldwide innovation ecosystem. It also aligns with the industry trend of global manufacturers establishing engineering hubs in India to support regional and international product development requirements.

Dimitrov Krishnan, Managing Director of Volvo CE India, reinforced the company’s commitment to developing products tailored to India’s needs. He noted that the EC215 integrates insights gathered from Indian customers, and that the larger portfolio reflects a broader shift toward lower-emission technologies in the country’s construction industry. With a nationwide dealer network supporting parts, service, and aftermarket solutions, Volvo CE says it is well positioned to serve India’s rapidly evolving infrastructure demands.

The combination of domestically built equipment, electric machinery introductions, service-based solutions, and dedicated R&D investments suggests that Volvo CE views India as a priority market for long-term growth. As infrastructure expansion accelerates across the country, the 2025 EXCON showcase indicates that global manufacturers are preparing for a more localised, efficient, and technology-driven construction future.
